When?

Select any date between October 15th and December 15th that works best for your group.

Why?

The Peace Tree Festival of Lights is a time to share and create understanding of our diverse festivals and highlight the similarities while celebrating our differences. Since Canada is one of the most diverse countries in the world, it’s time to unite and celebrate all our festivals TOGETHER in order to create peace and respect!

How?

Create booths that share information and images explaining the roots of each festival and how it is celebrated. Booths should be decorated with all the ornaments and symbols reflecting a particular festival. Students can wear clothing from the culture, share food, art, games and songs from each festival in order to create greater understanding among people of different faiths. (Educators must check to ensure that accurate information is being shared by students regarding each festival.)

The Experience

When anyone walks into a Peace Tree Festival, he/she will feel welcomed and experience the many colours, traditions, customs, rhythms and tastes of our vibrant Festival of Lights. They will see Chinese Lanterns for Lunar New Year, Diyas for Diwali, Kinaras for Kwanzaa, Menorahs for Hanukkah, the Crescent Moon and Star for Eid, Stars for Christmas and of course a Peace Tree that highlights all our cultural and faith symbols to reflect ‘diversity in unity’. The Peace Tree Festival is an experience for people of every culture and faith to celebrate under one roof TOGETHER! Schools and organizations can also use the Peace Tree Festival of Lights as a fundraiser for a children’s charity.
